Aeshia DeVore Branch is leading an emerging group of young
women who are entering the world strong, motivated, and confident
health leaders and journalists. Starting a foundation from scratch
is no easy feat - but this activist has grown Teen Diaries
Foundation into a life-changing foundation for young girls who are
now getting jobs at publications such as Nylon, Essence, Us Weekly,
and Refinery 29. During this time, she also founded Pretty
Girls Sweat after learning about the staggering childhood obesity
epidemic.
Although she has grown two recognizable and empowering brands,
her true strength is in her ability to pour everything she can into
her own daughters and young women around the country. Aeshia gets
honest about what motivates her, what keeps her fit, and how her
children have constantly proven people wrong with her constant
support.
Bio:
Aeshia is living her dream. The social entrepreneur, born in
Queens, NY, unites and empowers girls to be health leaders in their
communities. The alarming childhood obesity epidemic along with the
void of entertaining yet positive fitness content and fitness
events for female students (13-22) and young professionals (22 and
up) led to the conception and rapid growth of her passionate
venture. Aeshia leads business development, marketing, sales, and
event execution and has been responsible for bringing on clients
and partners including adidas women, Aquafina, Nike, Banana
Republic, YMCA, Essence, Samsung and Girl Scouts of the USA. Before
creating PRETTY GIRLS SWEAT, Aeshia thrived in the TV industry for
over nine years - working her way up from an intern at ABC to a
producer on Sundance Channel's celebrated, primetime series
ICONOCLASTS (via @radical.media), which enabled her to work with
her idol, Dr. Maya Angelou. The former high school athlete (track,
volleyball, and basketball), a graduate of Middle Tennessee State
University (Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications), and
proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was also a model
for Wilhelmina in New York City. An enthusiastic philanthropist,
Aeshia's community efforts have been highlighted on television
networks such as ABC, Centric, and BET as well as in several
publications and websites including Essence, Huffington Post, USA
Today, MadameNoire, and Upscale Magazine. Aeshia also co-founded
the Teen Diaries Foundation in 2007 to provide virtual mentorship
for female students in cities all over the nation. The
organization, which has served over 20,000 multi-cultural women,
has raised over $100k since becoming a 501c3 nonprofit in 2013. The
wife and mother of three girls currently resides in the Atlanta, GA
area and enjoys reading inspirational books, listening to music,
eating great food with friends, and enjoying the outdoors. Stay
